A couple weeks back I spent quite a few hours in my pit playing Pacifc Fighters, the latest addition to Oleg Madox’ IL2 Sturmovic series and, to put it bluntly, my ass was sore from sitting in my pit all day. My Akers-Barnes pit has served me well for quite some time, but it’s time to do an upgrade on my seating.
My buddy J got a new APC Sport Seat from Jeggs this past X-mas and reworked the Akers-Barnes design to incorporate it.
I decided to pick up the same seat, but have been tossing around ideas on what to build around it. I think I’ve settled on using PVC pipe instead of plywood as it will be lighter overall, and won’t require as many tools, or time, to construct.
Last week I picked up a couple 10′ sections of 2″ PVC and an assortment of fittings to play with. I’ve played around with several different ways of constructing the pit, and have a general idea where I’m going, but I’m not quite done yet and will probably tweak the setup for a couple of weeks.
I’ll write more on my experience on working with the PVC once the pit is done.
