June Garden Update

This will just be a short post to give an update on our SFG for June.

Most of the plants are gaining in size, but with our late seed starting I think we are still a little behind where we should be. I think the broccoli and lettuce should have been harvest-able by this point had we gotten things started at the recommended time. Hopefully we will see heads form and grow before it gets too warm.
In bed number one; the tomatoes were looking a little purplish for a while. The Roma’s are looking very green now, and the Beefsteaks are coming around slowly.

In bed two; the Onions seem to be doing fairly well, though a few are sending up seed shoots. I’ve clipped a couple of them off, and left a couple to gather seeds from. The Bush Beans are growing nicely, and the cucumbers in the back are showing some growth. The Pepper plants, in the middle of bed two, seem very small and a couple have died off. I think I’ve kept them too wet.

Garden is getting green by June 17th

The roma tomatoes are finaly starting to grow.

Mixed lettuce is coming along.

Bed number two is looking very nice, lots of green.

Raised Bed number two

Raised Bed number three is a little behind. The Garlic and Broccoli are small for this time of year I think.

Raised Bed number three

I planted Kennebec Potatoes in a bin.

The Kennebec potatoes growing in the bin seem to be doing well. I have more in another bin out back, made from hardware cloth, that seem to be a bit larger. I think the ones in back get sun for an hour or two longer per day, which may make the difference.

I am getting excited to get some food out of the garden. It won’t be long until we can get at least a small amount of lettuce. I think some spinach would have been a good idea. I may start some later in the year for a fall harvest.
