I snapped a few pictures of my raised beds this morning. The cucumbers are finally starting to look a little better. I have read that the slow growing is likely due to the amount of rain that we’ve received this spring. It’s been a very wet year so far. This being our first year gardening I’ve also been watering, and likely over-watered, my seedlings while they were still inside. It’s a learning experience
The cucumber plants are still smaller than I’d expected them to be by this time, but there are blossoms and cucumbers popping up in several places.
The cucumber plants on the west side of the bed grew a little quicker and are now getting the morning sun coming over the fence a bit earlier than the other plants. They seem to be growing even faster with the longer light and are outpacing their neighbors. The Bees are hard at work on all the plants, making sure there will be even more fruits popping up in the next weeks.
The tomatoes are finally setting fruit as well. I guess, like most people, I look forward to the tomato harvest most of all. The Roma’s, in the center of the bed, have more fruit set with several bunches on a couple of the plants. But even the Beefsteaks with their small size, have several little fruits hanging there making me impatient.
