We haven’t taken many pictures this month so I haven’t posted in a while, but here are a few images of our harvest and some new recipes we’ve tried recently.
Looking back, I wish we’d kept track of weights of the things we’ve taken from the garden. I’ve seen a couple of people list their harvest weights on their blogs, and really like the idea of keeping track. We’ve harvested all of the onions we planted and a couple of heads of broccoli so far, as well as one or two tomatoes and some lettuce, but have not really been able to ‘daily harvest’ to supplement our meals aside from some salad greens.
We are getting some nice cucumbers now, and the tomatoes are really doing well. We are going to have a large harvest of Roma’s soon. It looks like only one of the zucchini plants is going to produce. The other three are on their last leg. I’m pretty sure I saw the red and black bodied squash vine borer sitting on the potato bin awhile back, but I didn’t know what it was at the time so I left it alone… hindsight and all that.
Anyway, on to the pics. Here is a nice early August salad harvest of red and green lettuce, carrots, cucumber, and tomatoes. And a shot of one of the zucchini and a salad cucumber.
For our first harvest of multiple Roma tomatoes we made up some bruschetta, this is the first time either Amy or I have had bruschetta, and it was awesome. We also got a fair amount of basil, so we paired these with a Chicken Pesto Wrap and had a very satisfying dinner. (Note to self: Plant spinach this fall
)
We also tried this tasty treat recipe that was posted on a forum I visit. Dutch Babies are kind of like a mix between a pancake and an elephant ear; very tasty dusted with some powdered sugar.
